The result has been huge investments in the automotive and electronics industries, that has led to economic growth and prosperity. The Slovak property market has also seen subsequent growth. However, prices have recently stagnated and rental returns are weak. It could be sometime before the Slovakia property market becomes attractive enough again to invest in.

Slovakia has long been in the shadow of its neighbour, the Czech Republic. Despite its rapidly growing economy the Slovakian property market did not grow at an equivalently impressive level. In the 3 years leading up to the peak of Slovakian property prices in the early part of 2008 property prices grew around 10% a year on average, but have fallen month on month since then. It is slightly more difficult to obtain a mortgage in Slovakia for foreigners compared to neighbouring Czech Republic.
